North Queensland Fury’s Community Interests:

NQ Fury has become involved in many community based initiatives such as its ‘Big Brother’ program; linking players directly into clubs on a regular basis and The Big Issue’s Community Street Soccer Program; working with homeless and marginalised people in the community.

North Queensland Fury FC is proud to be a part of The Big Issue’s Street Soccer Program in Queensland.  The program is proof of the power of football in providing positive opportunities and engaging people from all backgrounds and abilities.  It is an informal social environment allowing people to feel supported and a part of something whilst also offering a number of health benefits.

Ian Ferguson, NQ Fury Coach
The Community Street Soccer Program is a great initiative. People of all ages and abilities enjoy having a kick and making friends. To see Norm’s excitement when he was selected to represent Queensland at the 2009 Street Soccer National Championships in Brisbane was pretty amazing for me, particularly as it was the first time he had ever had a chance to fly on a plane.

Ufuk Talay, NQ Fury Midfielder
Having been down to the Street Soccer Program at Riverway in Townsville, it was great to see everyone getting involved no matter what their skill level and excellent to see the support they had from each other and the community workers in ensuring everyone was participating and enjoying themselves.

Fred Aguis, NQ Fury Midfielder

I am really looking forward to being involved with the Townsville Women’s Correctional Street Soccer Program.  I hope this program will bring positive benefits in both body and mind for the women and hopefully inspire them.
